Biochemistry For Your Pet | Koroit Veterinary Clinic

Biochemistry testing is one of the most useful ways we can “look inside” your pet without surgery. With just a small blood and sometimes urine sample, our team at Koroit Veterinary Clinic can check how your pet’s organs are functioning and pick up problems long before they become serious.

Biochemistry FAQs
Just a few common questions about Biochemistry. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!
My pet looks healthy. Is the test really necessary?
Animals are incredibly stoic. They can lose up to 75% of their kidney function before they start showing clinical signs like excessive thirst. Testing when they “look healthy” allows us to catch these issues early, where diet changes or medication can extend their life significantly.
Does Biochemistry Testing hurt?
It is very similar to a human blood test. There is a momentary scratch, but for most pets, the stress of the car ride is worse than the needle itself! We use low-stress handling techniques to keep them calm.
What if the results are "Normal" but my pet is still sick?
A normal result is actually good news! It rules out major organ failure. It means we can look elsewhere for the problem (like X-rays or ultrasound) knowing the major organs are functioning well.
Can medications affect the results?
Yes. Certain drugs (like steroids or phenobarbitone) can raise liver enzymes. Always let us know what medication or supplements your pet is taking so we can interpret the results correctly.
